Today I went a little out of my comfort zone and did something to get in touch with my old self. I have recently discovered that despite what I think or how I act now, I am quite adventurous. Or at least I used to be. Since discovering this, I have been trying to find activities to do for ME. So, in comes paddle board yoga! I was made aware of this through an acquaintance and it immediately caught my attention.

I am not usually a person to do things like this by myself, so I asked a friend or two, or three, or four. Ok, you get it. Anyway, no one was able to do it with me but I didn’t care. For once! I signed up anyway, and I went. Alone! That in and of itself is a big step! On to the paddle board yoga class.

I have done yoga before but is has always been on land. I have never been on a paddle board before so needless to say, I was a bit nervous. I did not feel like falling into a freezing cold lake! I get there, and it is a small class, which is nice. Everyone is very nice and makes me feel comfortable. They go over safety instructions and how to use use the paddle board. So off we go into the lake.

In addition to the instructor, there is an assistant, who helps me get on the board and off shore into the lake. It’s actually not too bad and quite enjoyable! We are on a lake surrounded by trees and it is a perfect day considering it had been gloomy and raining all morning. It’s not too hot and the rain has cleared up enough to let some sun out!

Once we get to where we are going to do our yoga we hook our boards to a rope so we don’t drift away. It is a little tricky at first because the board still moves around so you have to adjust to that. Once I adjusted to the movement of the board it really wasn’t as difficult as I had anticipated. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t  jumping around by any means! When we moved it was slowly! I am very proud to say that I made it through the entire class without falling into the water!

Going to this class, doing something I have never done before, and by myself to boot, was a huge accomplishment for me! I am so glad that I took this step and cannot wait to continue taking these steps toward having many more adventures!
